Easy to implement in classrooms, resource rooms, speech therapy and homeschools.
Start with an overview of the solar system learning the placement of each planet, the asteroid belt, the Kuiper Belt, and the Oort Cloud.
Then there are two sets of directions for each of the eight planets, the dwarf planet, Pluto, as well as nine moons.
The first set of directions is titled Fast Facts and has students color, write and draw on a notebooking page about the size of the planet or moon, its composition, when it was discovered, how long it takes to orbit the sun or its planet, and more!
The second set of directions helps students imagine traveling to the planet or moon and experiencing it themselves. They will learn about its atmosphere, weather conditions, geological features and more!
In addition, there eight additional sets of directions that teach about the asteroid belt, Kuiper Belt, Oort Cloud, Halley’s Comet, the Milky Way, black holes, stars and nebulae.
Students also work on language concepts such as above/below, left/right, and top/bottom. One-step and two-step directions are included.
Directives are given for students to write specific notes based upon what they heard, improving the essential skill of note taking.
Instructions are provided to simplify the activity for children working at lower levels and to increase the difficulty for students who need a challenge.
This is a great activity to introduce your children to the solar system and universe or to accompany a study of astronomy.
